To Kill A King"s debut album was finally released into the world yesterday and here in TGE HQ it's been practically wearing out our speakers. "Cannibals with Cutlery" dances between gentle, acoustic-led tracks to bouncy pop numbers and into rousing, stadium-sized anthems, showing off every dimension of the band's diverse sound. We got hold of To Kill A King to find out a little more about the album and where on earth that name came from...

Q. Your music has been described in such words as "sky-scraping folk' or "rousing orch-folk' that contains "dark lyrical musings' by a number of influential music sources. How would you best describe your sounds if you were talking to someone without any ears?

"Rousing orch folk' that sounds like something out of The Lord of the Rings! Erm, let me see, we normally go for "lyrical indie folk'.

Q. "Cannibals with Cutlery', your debut album released February 25th certainly has a ring to its name. Assuming it's not to be taken literally and that you're not all cannibals with knives and forks ready to descend upon us all, what is the story behind the name?

It's taken from a line in one of our songs, "a cannibal with cutlery is a cannibal still," I should have probably said "wolf in sheep's clothes,' then more people would have known what I meant.

Q. You're appearing at the intimate Banquet Records this February 25th along with a secret guerilla gig two days later. What sort of venue do you relish the most, any particular place you hold closest to your hearts?

There have been many over the years, Brudenell Social Club in Leeds (my home town) is a fantastic venue and I suppose Notting Hill Arts Club and Ronnie Scott's has held a lot of good memories for us over the years, as does Scala where we are playing in April. But we do a lot of guerilla gigs which are special because they will never happen again, for example taking over a carriage of the DLR or underneath Festival Pier.

Q. Your video to "Cold Skin' features a load of face paint, a horse, some blood and a wrestler. Care to elaborate on the thought processes behind this video?

No, I'm going to stay clear of this one, I think if you've not seen it, go see it. We just shot the video for the next single with the same director Jack King and it involves me dead in a wheel chair, me dead on a rollercoaster and me dead being pushed by some girls on a hen night racing an old lady in another wheel chair.

Q. How did you guys progress from jamming together to where you are now, playing legendary venues such as Shepherd's Bush Empire. Is there a key moment you can look back on and think "this is the moment we knew we made it as a band'?

We recorded a demo of "Cold Skin' which later became "Fictional State' in this little studio in Leeds and we listened to an unmixed, unmastered version of it on our way home to London and I remember thinking "this could be something good...'
